Dr Amr Elnashai

Dr Amr Elnashai is a Bill and Elaine Hall Endowed Professor and a Fellow of the UK Royal Academy of Engineering. He is Director of NEES@UIUC Simulation Laboratory, a National Science Foundation (NSF) multi-institutional research center and also Director of the Mid-America Earthquake Center, an NSF simulation laboratory at Illinois, USA. A graduate of Cairo University, Dr Amr obtained his MSc and PhD from Imperial College, London. He was Professor and Section Head at Imperial College. Amr Elnashai is Visiting Professor at the University of Surrey, University of Tokyo, University of Southern California and the Rose School, Italy, where he is also a board member. He is founder of the Journal of Earthquake Engineering, and past senior Vice-President of the European Association. He won the Imperial College Unwin Prize for best PhD thesis in Civil and Mechanical Engineering, the Oscar Faber Medal for best paper in the IStructE, and two best paper medals from the International Association of Tall Buildings. Amr has published 110 refereed journal papers, 140 conference papers, 8 books and book chapters, and has advised 29 PhDs and over 100 MSc theses.
