Dr Hamda A. Al-Naemi was appointed Head of the biological and environmental sciences department in 2006. She joined the then named department of biological sciences in 2000 as Assistant Professor of physiology and immunology.
She earned her BSc in Zoology/Chemistry from Qatar University and her MA in Physiology from King Saud University, Saudi Arabia. After teaching at Qatar University for two years, Dr Hamda travelled to the USA and obtained her PhD in Physiological Sciences from the University of Arizona. During this time she developed an interest in vivo research in cardiovascular biology and worked on mesenteric inflammatory models. She achieved international recognition for this with the Caroline tum Suden/Frances A Hellebrandt Professional Opportunity Award for Meritorious Research in 1999.
Dr Hamda has championed several projects aimed at promoting scientific research and enhancing student training at Qatar University. In 2001, she worked to establish an animal facility to breed and host animal models for biomedical and transgenic research. She also participated in the team to introduce an interdisciplinary undergraduate program in environmental science, now led by her department. Dr Hamda worked on the Qatar University reform project from 2004-2006. |
