Dr Sheikha Abdulla Al-Misnad became President of the University of Qatar in 2003. Prior to that, she served as Vice President for Research and Community Development, Head of the Department of Foundations of Education and as a member of the University Council.
President Al-Misnad received her BA in Education and subsequently a DipEd from University of Qatar. She enrolled at the University of Durham, UK, where she was granted a PhD in Education in 1984.
During her graduate studies at Durham Sheikha Abdulla Al-Misnad became active in research relating to education in the Gulf, and the education of women in particular. She was commissioned in 2003 to lead a project to transform the University of Qatar into a leading regional institution of higher education. Major reforms have already been initiated in the areas of curricula, programs, and structure.
Since 1999 President Al-Misnad has been on the Qatar Foundation Board of Directors and an active member of the Supreme Educational Council, which is overseeing the reform of publicly funded education in Qatar.
At the international level, Dr Al-Misnad is a member of several international bodies and delegations. She was a contributing member of the Steering Committee of the Symposium at the UNESCO World Conference on Higher Education Applicability to the Arab States of the Gulf. Since June 2004, she has been selected member of the United Nations University Council (UNU). Dr Al-Misnad has written more than 50 articles published in professional journals and presented at leading conferences and seminars. |
