Virander Singh Chauhan is the Director of the International Centre for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology (ICGEB), India. He also leads the malaria research group. Prior to his work at ICGEB Dr Chauhan was Professor at the department of chemistry, Delhi University, Assistant Professor at the Indian Institute of Technology and a Post-doctoral Fellow in the department of chemistry, University of Georgia, Atlanta, USA. Dr Chauhan is a member of many societies including TWAS, the academy of sciences for the developing world.
Under his leadership, the ICGEB has enhanced its collaboration with both research institutes and the pharmaceutical industry. The centre has also emerged as a leading research and training institute in India. Sustained efforts in research have led to the development of several technologies in the area of human health, detection methods for infectious diseases and recombinant proteins bio-pharmaceuticals.
During his scientific career, Dr Chauhan has trained a large number of researchers and students and has published more than 160 research papers in respected peer reviewed journals. His research interests are in malaria vaccine and Dr g development research and peptides.
Dr Chauhan has a D.Phil. (Rhodes Scholarship), from Oxford University, UK and a PhD, MSc (Chemistry) and BSc (Hons.) from Delhi University, Delhi, India |
