W Richard Bowen is a Fellow of the UK Royal Academy of Engineering, Professor in the School of Engineering at University of Wales, Swansea and initiator of i-NewtonWales.

Dr Bowen is a chemical engineer who has made major contributions to the understanding and application of advanced separation processes, especially membrane processes for water treatment. He has pioneered the application of atomic force microscopy to process engineering problems. W Richard Bowen has advised funding agencies, industry and universities on an international basis. Dr Bowen is also known internationally for his work in philosophy, especially engineering ethics and understanding across conceptual schemes.
